What are Coach Screws?

Coach screws, also known as lag bolts or lag screws, are heavy-duty fasteners commonly used for securing two or more materials together. Coach screws are larger and thicker than regular screws and typically come with a hexagonal head and an externally threaded cylindrical shaft that tapers to a point at the tip. The head allows for increased torque when tightening with a spanner or socket wrench, enhancing their fastening capability.

Countersunk Socket Coach Screws have a head that are installed to be flush with the materials surface. Lagscrews, also known as hanger bolts, come with a shaft similar to a coach screw on one side and a machine thread on the other. While these do not have a head, they do have an internal socket drive making them easy to install.

What the advantages of Coach Screws?

  • The coarse thread reduces the likelihood of becoming loose over time.
  • Hexagonal head allows for easy removal with a spanner, making them ideal for temporary or adjustable installations.
